You would need to drink more than three glasses of milk to get your daily dose of 1000 mg of calcium. And for many of us, that just isn't feasible. As you probably already know, though, milk isn't your only source of calcium. In fact, you can get calcium from foods like kale, oranges, and almonds too.
What you might not realize is that calcium is great for a whole lot more than bone health. Calcium helps with muscle function, nerve transmission, and even hormone secretion. So, making sure you get your daily dose is important.
Now with the help of supplements, you don't have to rely on eating all the right foods all the time. And instead of running out to the store and buying them, we're going to show you how to quickly and easily make your own calcium supplements right from home. You can do it in 3 easy steps and it involves something you were already going to throw away. Ready? Check out our video and be sure to use the tips below to get started!
Materials:
12 egg shells
Collander
Baking sheet
Blender
Bowl
Directions
1. Rinse & boil

Crack your eggs open so you get rid of the yolk and whites. Maybe make a nice big omelet with them, or, just keep your egg shells in a safe spot until you have enough to make this powder.
Egg shells are composed of many different elements, but the main one is calcium carbonate, which is going to help supply you with all the calcium you need in your diet.
Next, you're going to gently wash our your egg -- you don't want to remove the glossy membrane coating on the inside of the shells. Now, you need to drop the egg shells into boiling water and let them sit there for about 10 minutes.
2. Bake

Next, pop your egg shells in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit and let them bake for 15 minutes.
3. Grind them up

Now comes the fun part. Take your egg shells and drop them in the blender. You want to run the blender until the shells have turned into a nice fine powder.
Expert tip: you can also put the shells in a coffee grinder to get the same result
4. Enjoy!

Your final result should look like this! Now you can mix this fine powder into your favorite foods for the daily supplement you need. Just one teaspoon will be about 90 percent of your daily dosage, so be sure to never go over that limit.
How to use your calcium powder:
- Never go over 1 teaspoon a day
- If you have a sensitive stomach, start with 1/4 of a teaspoon and add more into your diet from there. The calcium could irritate your bowels
- Split up your teaspoon across your 3 main meals of the day
- Use your calcium powder as part of a face mask. It can help with cell renewal
- Add it to your plant's water to give them a little extra boost of nutrients
