At first, her ankle just got red and sore. A day later, the pain worsened. The next day Wilson could not stand and had developed a 102-degree fever — she knew she needed to go to the ER.
"It feels like you're sitting too close to a fire and you just cannot get away from it, that's the way it feels," Wilson said to KATV.
Wilson tells the news station that the nail salon worker had made a little mistake. "She knew she had hurt me a little bit."
Wilson was taken to Saline Memorial Hospital where doctors confirmed that Wilson had an infection called cellulitis. Dr. Michael Pafford told KATV, "Pedicures and manicures aren't the only thing that can cause it, but definitely we do see it associated with that."
Pafford recommended speaking up during the procedure and "recognizing that you have the right to refuse to let them (nail salons) proceed if they're not using sterile equipment. That's the best thing to do."
