7 ways to lighten dark under-eye circles

Do you suffer from dark circles under the eyes? Are you exasperated because no matter if you get 7, 8, or even 9 hours of sleep, you appear totally and completely exhausted? There's good and bad news here.
According to Today I Found Out, dark circles under the eyes are most often genetic. (So go ahead, blame mom and dad!) They result from the skin under the eyes being thinner than in other parts of the body and therefore revealing more of the blood vessels that lie underneath. This is why dark circles under the eyes become more prominent as a person ages and her skin becomes increasingly thin and papery.

The good news is that there are home remedies that can lighten dark under-eye circles and make you appear fresher, healthier, and more awake.
1. Tomatoes. Times of India explains tomatoes are a surprising solution, as they make the skin soft and supple. To use this home remedy, apply a solution of 1 teaspoon tomato juice mixed with 1 teaspoon lemon juice under the eyes. Let the solution soak in for 10 minutes and then simply wash it off using water. It is best to do this twice daily.
2. Cold tea bags. Resting with cold, damp chamomile or green tea bags over the eyes can be soothing and effective against dark circles, says Times of India.
3. Water. It may sound too simple, but NDTV explains a major culprit of dark under-eye circles is dehydration. Pump up that skin by drinking a minimum of 10- 12 glasses of water daily.
4. Citrus. Vitamins B and C, which are founded in high-concentrations in citrus fruits like oranges and lemons, as well as kiwis and apricots, are key to healthy skin texture. To improve the texture of the skin under your eyes, NDTV recommends getting a significant amount of citrus in your diet.
5. Massage. Make this your new favorite part of the day. For best results, NDTV recommends using a mixture of coconut oil and almond oil to gently massage the area around the eyes.
6. Cold milk. Milk soothes the eyes and skin. Times of India recommends letting a cotton ball soak in a bowl of cold milk. Then lie back and sit with the cotton ball over your closed eyes until you are completely relaxed.
7. Potato. Both NDTV and Times of India recommend using potato juice to lighten the skin under the eyes. The easiest way to do this is to relax with potato slices on the eyes. Another method is to grate a potato and then using a cotton ball, to soak up the potato juice and rest with the cotton ball over the closed eyelid.
