Fight off your allergies with these 7 all natural home remedies

Allergies cause the nose to run or get stuffed up, the eyes to itch and itchy hives to form on the skin. None of these symptoms are pleasant. In fact, they can be downright miserable. Over-the-counter remedies might give you some relief, but what do you do if you run out or you don't like taking medication?
There is hope for you! Below are 7 natural ways you can fight back against your allergies and win. Try them out and see which ones work best for you.

1. Green tea. Dr. Tim Mainardi says that green tea is nature's antihistamine and works just as well as over-the-counter remedies. The key is to start drinking it two weeks before allergy season begins and drinking 2 cups a day.
2. Butterbur. Another herb that may give relief is butterbur. It "has the best track record among herbs used for pollen allergies," according to Reader's Digest and has the added advantage of not causing drowsiness. WebMD cautions that if you are allergic to ragweed, marigolds or daisies, you may have an allergic reaction to butterbur, though.
3. Licorice root. Used freely by Chinese medicine to treat many ailments, licorice root can be useful if you are trying to break up an allergic cough, says WebMD. The U. S. National Library of Medicine does caution against using too much too freely as it can have some serious side effects, so seek recommendations for dosage from your doctor.
4. Acupuncture. For those who suffer from allergic rhinitis, the Mayo Clinic recommends trying acupuncture for relief.
5. Nasal rinse. Dr. Axe recommends using a Neti pot with a saline solution to help rinse allergens from your sinus cavity. He recommends using distilled water so you aren't adding any unnecessary bacteria or minerals into the sinus cavity.
6. Diet. To open up the sinuses if they're clogged, you can try eating some spicy foods. WebMD recommends cayenne pepper, hot ginger, fenugreek, onion and garlic.
7. Breastfeeding. If allergies run in the family, the best way to keep from passing them on to your children is through breastfeeding. A study published by the U. S. National Library of Medicine in 2007 shows a definitive relationship between breastfeeding and preventing allergies in children.
