The kitchen cabinet solution to nosebleeds

Blood anywhere can be icky and frightening. But it can be extra scary to see blood coming out of your nose. Fortunately, nosebleeds are usually nothing serious, says the National Health Service. Nosebleeds can be caused by a number of events, such as picking your nose, blowing your nose too hard, a minor injury, and changes in humidity or temperature.
Any of these activities can cause damage to the tiny blood vessels that line the nose. When these blood vessels are disturbed, they bleed. To prevent nosebleeds, the National Health Service recommends blowing your nose gently and infrequently and applying Vaseline to the inside of your nostrils, especially if you live somewhere that is very dry.

But what should you do when you get a nosebleed? Read below to find out!
1. Tilt your head forward, not back. Dr. Bradley Marple, a nose expert and professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center told The Wall Street Journal that the best way to stop a nosebleed is to pinch your nose where the bone ends and cartilage begins, while tilting your head forward. You might think this goes against everything you've ever heard about nosebleeds. But Dr. Marple explains tilting your head forward helps the blood clot, whereas tilting the head backwards can actually be very dangerous and lead to vomiting.
2. White vinegar. Dab a cloth or cotton ball in white vinegar. Put the cotton ball in your nostril and hold it there until the bleeding stops. How Stuff Works says the bleeding should stop fairly quickly. The home remedy works because vinegar helps seal the blood vessel wall.
3. Salt. Nosebleeds are often caused by allergens that get stuck in the lining of your nose. To clean out your nose and stop further nosebleeds, make a saline rinse. Mix a pinch of salt in 1/2  cup of water. Use a syringe or carefully pour a few drops of the saline solution into your nostrils. The Fit Indian recommends doing this 2 to 3 times daily until your nosebleeds subside.
4. Holy basil. A seemingly miraculous treatment for nosebleeds is chewing on fresh holy basil leaves. The Fit Indian explains this home remedy works because the herb soothes stressed nerves and blood vessels. You can also apply a few drops of fresh juice from the leaves to the bleeding nostrils.
5. Steam. Dr. Marple said in an article for The Wall Street Journal, the best way to treat and prevent nosebleeds is to keep the nostrils moist. The easiest way to do this is to take regular steamy showers. You can also inhale steam treated with soothing essential oils, such as lavendar.
6. Onion. The Fit Indian recommends smelling freshly sliced onion in order to treat a nosebleed. This works because onions have a blood clotting agent and are rich in both vitamin c and bioflavonoids that strengthen damaged blood vessels.
7. Coriander. This cool and refreshing herb has the power to balance pressure within blood vessels. This is why The Fit Indian recommends coating the nostrils with fresh coriander juice or coriander oil in order to stop nosebleeds.
8. Lemon. Drop a bit of fresh lemon juice into your bleeding nostrils. The Fit Indian says the vitamin C in lemon juice will strengthen the broken blood vessels and stop the bleeding.
